Before there was Rowdy or even the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, there was Crazy Ray.
Seen for more than four decades on the sidelines of Texas Stadium, the original -- but unofficial -- mascot of the Dallas Cowboys died this morning, officials said. He was 76.
His real name was Wilford Jones and as "Crazy Ray," he pumped up fans and even simulated assaults on other teams' mascots.
He entertained fans with magic tricks and other antics. The long-time diabetic, however, was forced to scale back some routine after doctors amputated one of his legs.
